AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE COMMISSIONER OF PUBLIC SAFETY TO GIVE AT LEAST ONE WEEK'S PRIOR WRITTEN NOTICE TO THE OWNERS OR OPERATORS OF ALL BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENTS THAT ARE LOCATED ON OR ADJACENT TO AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY OR STATE HIGHWAY WITHIN THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF THE POINT WHERE THE MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY SAFETY PATROL WILL CONDUCT A MOTOR VEHICLE TRAFFIC STOP OR ROADBLOCK FOR THE PURPOSE OF CHECKING DRIVER'S LICENSES OR MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTION STICKERS OR FOR THE PURPOSE OF PERFORMING OTHER LAWFUL LAW ENFORCEMENT DUTIES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Whenever the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol conducts a motor vehicle traffic stop or roadblock on an interstate highway or state highway for the purpose of checking driver's licenses or motor vehicle inspection stickers or for the purpose of performing other lawful law enforcement duties, the Commissioner of Public Safety, or his designee, shall give at least one (1) week's prior written notice to the owners or operators of all business establishments that are located on or adjacent to such highway and within the immediate vicinity of the point where such traffic will be stopped or such roadblock will be set up.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1999.
